Privacy Policy

Overview

This Privacy Policy explains how HUD+ ("the App") collects, uses, and protects your information. By using HUD+, you consent to the practices described in this policy.

1. Information We Collect

1.1 Information You Provide

Personal Profile:

• Name: used for personalization
• Age/Birth Year: used for calorie and metabolic calculations
• Sex: used for health and metabolic calculations
• Height: used for BMI and TDEE calculations
• Weight (current & goal): used for progress tracking and goal setting

Health & Fitness Data:

• Meal logs and food photos
• Calorie and macro intake
• Water intake
• Exercise logs
• Fasting records
• Weight history and progress photos

User Content:

• Voice input for corrections (processed on-device)
• Text descriptions
• Shopping lists and pantry items
• Saved meals and recipes

1.2 Account Information (Optional)

You can use HUD+ without an account. If you choose to sign in with Google or Apple, we receive your account's unique ID, email address, and name from that provider through Firebase Authentication. Signing in lets Premium subscribers back up and restore their data (see section 5.2).

1.3 Automatic Collection

• Device identifiers: collected by Firebase, AdMob, and PostHog for analytics and advertising
• Usage data (screens, features): collected by Firebase Analytics and PostHog for app improvement
• Session recordings: PostHog records a replay of the App's screens to help us find and fix bugs. All text and images are masked in these recordings, so your meals, food photos, and typed values are never captured.
• Device and diagnostic information (device model, OS version, app version, performance): collected by Firebase and PostHog for bug fixes
• Push notification token: collected by Firebase Cloud Messaging to send reminders and notifications

1.4 Third-Party Data

Health Connect Integration (with your explicit permission):

HUD+ integrates with Android's Health Connect platform to provide you with a comprehensive, holistic wellness experience. By combining your activity and sleep data with your nutrition intake, we can deliver meaningful insights and help you understand the complete picture of your health.

We request read-only access to the following data types:

• Steps: to display your daily step count on your dashboard and analyze your overall activity level alongside your nutritional intake
• Active Energy Burned: to show accurate calories burned from your wearable device, enabling precise energy balance calculations when combined with your food intake
• Sleep Duration: to track your sleep patterns and provide insights into how rest affects your metabolism, recovery, and overall wellness goals

How This Data Enhances Your Experience:

• Holistic Health Dashboard: view your nutrition, activity, and sleep data in one unified interface
• Accurate Energy Balance: calculate your true calorie balance by combining food intake with actual calories burned from your wearable
• Personalized Insights: receive AI-powered recommendations that consider your complete health picture, not just what you eat
• Progress Tracking: monitor how your activity levels and sleep patterns correlate with your nutrition and weight goals

2. How We Use Your Information

• Calculate personalized nutrition and calorie goals based on your biometrics
• Analyze food photos for nutritional content using AI
• Track and display nutrition, exercise, and health metrics in a unified dashboard
• Combine Health Connect data with nutrition data to provide holistic wellness insights
• Generate personalized daily insights based on your complete health picture
• Provide AI health coaching that considers your activity, sleep, and nutrition together
• Sync and display health data from your wearable devices via Health Connect
• Look up products via barcode scanning
• Analyze recipes for nutritional content
• Back up and restore your data across devices (Premium, signed-in users only)
• Send reminders and notifications
• Display advertisements (free tier only)
• Process subscription purchases
• Find and fix bugs, and improve App performance and user experience

3. Information Sharing

3.1 We Do NOT Sell Your Data

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties.

3.2 Service Providers

We share limited data with the following service providers solely to operate the App:

• Google Cloud Functions: receives food photos, text, and context for AI nutritional analysis and coaching
• AI model providers (Google Gemini or OpenAI): receive food photos, text, and context from our Cloud Functions to generate nutritional analysis and coaching responses
• Firebase Authentication, Cloud Firestore, and Cloud Storage: store your account and backed-up data (Premium, signed-in users only)
• Firebase Analytics: receives usage events for app analytics
• Firebase Cloud Messaging: receives a device token to deliver notifications
• PostHog: receives usage events, device information, and masked session recordings for analytics and bug fixing
• Google AdMob: receives device identifiers for advertising (free tier only)
• Google Play / App Store: receives purchase tokens for subscription processing
• Open Food Facts: receives barcodes for product information lookup

3.3 Legal Requirements

We may disclose information if required by law or to protect rights, safety, or prevent fraud.

AI Processing: Food photos and text are sent for analysis, processed on-demand, and not permanently stored by our AI processing service.

5. Data Storage and Security

5.1 Local Storage

Your data is stored locally on your device, including:

• Profile information
• Meal logs and photos
• Exercise records
• Health metrics from Health Connect
• App preferences

Uninstalling the App permanently deletes all local data.

5.2 Cloud Backup (Premium, Signed-In Users Only)

If you are a Premium subscriber and sign in, HUD+ backs up your data to Google Firebase (Cloud Firestore and Cloud Storage) so you can restore it on a new device. This backup includes your profile and settings, meal logs and food photos, saved meals, exercise logs, daily metrics (such as water intake and step count), weight history, shopping list, pantry items, and imported recipes. If you do not sign in, nothing is backed up and your data stays on your device.

5.3 Cloud Processing

Some data is temporarily processed in the cloud:

• Food photos (for AI analysis): processed on-demand, not permanently stored by our AI processing service
• Recipe analysis: processed on-demand
• AI chat: session-based only, not retained

5.4 Security Measures

• All data transmissions use HTTPS encryption
• Local data is stored in app-private directories
• Sign-in is handled by Google or Apple through Firebase Authentication. HUD+ never sees or stores your password.
• Backed-up data is stored in your own private area of our Firebase project and can only be accessed while signed in to your account
• Health Connect data is accessed through Google's secure APIs

5.5 Data Retention

We retain data only as long as needed for the purposes described in this policy:

• On-device data (profile, meal logs, food photos, exercise records, health metrics, preferences): retained on your device until you delete individual entries or uninstall the App. Uninstalling permanently deletes all local data.
• Cloud backup (Premium, signed-in users only): retained until you delete your account. Deleting your account in Settings permanently deletes your backed-up data and your account.
• Cloud-processed data (food photos for AI analysis, recipe analysis, AI chat): processed on-demand and not retained. It is discarded once the response is returned.
• Analytics and crash data (via Firebase): retained by Google on our behalf for up to 14 months for analytics events, and up to 90 days for crash logs, after which it is automatically deleted or aggregated. See Google's policy.
• Analytics data and session recordings (via PostHog): retained by PostHog on our behalf for a limited period, after which it is automatically deleted.
• Advertising identifiers (via AdMob, free tier only): retained by Google per its data retention policies.

You may request deletion of any data at any time by deleting entries in-app, deleting your account in Settings, uninstalling the App, or contacting us at hyperfixlabs@gmail.com. We do not retain data longer than necessary for the purposes stated above or as required by law.

6. Your Rights and Choices

6.1 Control Your Data

• View and edit all data within the App
• Delete individual entries anytime
• Delete your account and all backed-up data in Settings
• Delete all local data by uninstalling the App

6.2 Health Connect Permissions

• Grant or revoke permissions anytime in Android Settings > Health Connect > HUD+
• Revoking permissions stops future data synchronization
• Previously synced data remains on your device (and in your cloud backup, if you use one) until you delete it, delete your account, or uninstall the App
• You can selectively grant permissions (e.g., allow steps but not sleep)

6.3 Advertising

Opt out of personalized ads:

• Android: Settings > Google > Ads > Opt out of Ads Personalization
• iOS: Settings > Privacy > Tracking

6.4 GDPR Rights (European Users)

You have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict, and port your data. Contact us to exercise these rights.

6.5 CCPA Rights (California Users)

You have the right to know what data we collect, request deletion, and opt out of sale (we don't sell data). Contact us to exercise these rights.

7. Health Connect: Detailed Disclosure

HUD+ uses Android's Health Connect platform to read health and fitness data from your wearable devices and fitness apps. This section provides detailed information about our Health Connect integration as required by Google Play policies.

Data Types We Access

Read Steps (Read Only)

• What: daily step count from your device or wearable
• Why: display on dashboard; analyze activity patterns; correlate with nutrition intake for holistic insights

Read Active Energy Burned (Read Only)

• What: calories burned from physical activity as calculated by your wearable
• Why: display accurate calorie burn from your wearable; calculate energy balance with food intake; provide precise deficit/surplus tracking

Read Sleep (Read Only)

• What: sleep session duration from your wearable or sleep tracking app
• Why: display sleep data; analyze sleep patterns; provide insights on how rest affects metabolism and wellness goals

Why We Need Each Permission

Steps: Your step count is displayed on your home dashboard and wellness screens. We analyze your activity level alongside your nutritional intake to provide a complete picture of your daily energy expenditure. This helps you understand whether you're meeting your movement goals and how your activity affects your calorie needs.

Active Energy Burned: This is the most accurate way to track calories burned from physical activity. Instead of estimating calories from steps using generic formulas, we read the actual calorie data calculated by your wearable device (which uses your heart rate, movement patterns, and personal metrics). This data is combined with your food intake to show your true energy balance: whether you're in a calorie deficit, surplus, or maintenance.

Sleep Duration: Sleep significantly impacts metabolism, hunger hormones, and overall wellness. By tracking your sleep alongside nutrition and activity, HUD+ can provide insights into how your rest patterns affect your health goals. Users can see correlations between sleep quality and their energy levels, food choices, and progress.

How We Use Health Connect Data

1. Display: health data is shown on your dashboard cards and wellness screens
2. Analysis: data is analyzed locally to generate personalized insights
3. Correlation: we combine activity, sleep, and nutrition data to provide holistic wellness recommendations
4. Progress Tracking: historical data helps track trends over time

Data Protection

• Read-Only Access: we cannot modify or delete your Health Connect data
• Local Storage: Health Connect data is stored locally on your device
• Cloud Backup: if you are a Premium subscriber and sign in, your daily step count is included in your private cloud backup (section 5.2) so it can be restored on a new device. It is used for no other purpose.
• No Selling: Health Connect data is never sold or shared for advertising purposes
• No Analytics: Health Connect data is never sent to analytics providers, and session recordings mask all on-screen values
• User Control: revoke access anytime through Health Connect settings

8. Children's Privacy

HUD+ is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided information, contact us and we will delete it.

9. International Users

Data may be processed in countries where our service providers operate (e.g., United States). We rely on standard contractual clauses for international data transfers where required.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy periodically. Changes take effect upon posting with a new "Effective Date." Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
