GainLock
Terms of Service
1. Acceptance of Terms
By downloading, installing, or using GainLock ("the App"), you agree to these Terms of Service ("Terms") and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the App.
2. Description of Service
GainLock is a screen-time and self-control app. You select apps you want to limit; GainLock intercepts them and asks you to earn access by completing physical exercise. It provides:
- App Locking: Intercepting apps you choose to limit
- Earned Screen Time: A time bank credited by completing exercise
- Exercise Tracking: On-device camera pose detection to count repetitions
- Earning by Walking: Optionally reading your step count from Android Health Connect and converting it into earned screen time
- Stats and Streaks: Local tracking of your activity and progress
- Achievements: Local badges awarded for streaks and milestones
- Reminders: A local notification to maintain your streak
3. Eligibility
You must be at least 13 years old to use this App. Users under 18 must have parental or guardian consent.
4. User Data
4.1 Local Storage
GainLock stores all of your data locally on your device. There are no user accounts. This means:
- Uninstalling the App permanently deletes all your data
- Data cannot be recovered or transferred between devices
- You are responsible for any backups you wish to make
4.2 Your Responsibility
You are responsible for maintaining the security of your device and for the choices you make in the App, including which apps you lock.
5. Pricing and Subscriptions
GainLock is free to download and includes free features. Full access ("GainLock Pro") is a paid upgrade, sold through Google Play Billing.
Plans. Pro is offered as a monthly subscription, an annual subscription, or a one-time lifetime purchase. The exact price and billing period for your country are shown in the App and on the Google Play purchase screen before you buy. Prices are charged in your local currency and may vary by region.
Free trial. Subscriptions may include a free trial offered by Google Play. Starting a trial requires a payment method. Unless you cancel before the trial ends, the subscription begins automatically and your payment method is charged the price shown at purchase. The trial length and the exact date of the first charge are displayed on the purchase screen. Trial eligibility is determined by Google and is generally limited to one trial per Google account.
Auto-renewal. Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period at the then-current price, until cancelled. Your payment method is charged within 24 hours of the renewal date.
Cancelling. You can cancel at any time in the Google Play Store under Menu > Subscriptions, or at play.google.com/store/account/subscriptions. Cancelling stops future charges; access continues until the end of the period you have already paid for. Uninstalling the App does not cancel a subscription.
Lifetime purchase. The lifetime option is a one-time payment granting Pro access on the Google account that bought it, for as long as the App is available. It does not auto-renew.
Refunds. Refunds are handled by Google Play under its refund policy. We cannot process refunds directly, but you are welcome to contact us and we will help where we can.
Price changes. We may change prices. Any change affecting an active subscription takes effect only after Google notifies you, and you may cancel before it applies.
Restoring purchases. If you reinstall the App or change devices, use the "Restore" option on the upgrade screen to recover a purchase made with the same Google account.
6. Acceptable Use
You agree NOT to:
- Use the App for any unlawful purpose
- Reverse engineer, decompile, or modify the App
- Use automated tools or bots, or otherwise interfere with the App's operation
7. Intellectual Property
The App's design, features, and content are protected by intellectual property laws. You receive a limited, non-exclusive, revocable license to use the App for personal, non-commercial purposes.
8. Health, Exercise and Safety Disclaimer
IMPORTANT: GainLock IS NOT A MEDICAL DEVICE, A FITNESS TRAINER, OR A SUBSTITUTE FOR PROFESSIONAL ADVICE. YOU EXERCISE AT YOUR OWN RISK.
- GainLock prompts you to perform physical exercise. Physical activity carries an inherent risk of injury.
- The App does NOT assess your fitness level, form, technique, or physical condition. Its pose detection counts movement only — it does not evaluate whether an exercise is safe or correct for you.
- The App does NOT diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any condition, and does not provide medical or fitness advice.
- Repetition counts, step counts, and exercise tracking are estimates and may contain errors.
Consult a qualified healthcare provider before beginning any exercise routine, especially if you have a medical condition, an injury, are pregnant, or have any doubt about your ability to exercise safely. Stop immediately and seek medical attention if you feel pain, dizziness, or discomfort.
You assume full responsibility for any injury, harm, or consequence arising from physical activity performed in connection with the App.
9. App Blocking Disclaimer
GainLock is a self-control aid, not a security or parental-control product. It is not guaranteed to be effective or unbypassable. In particular:
- The App's blocking can be disabled, bypassed, or uninstalled by the device user.
- Device manufacturers' battery and background-process restrictions may stop the monitoring service from running.
- The App is not a substitute for parental controls and should not be relied upon to restrict another person's device use.
You should not rely on GainLock to block apps in any situation where a failure to block could cause harm or loss.
10. Uninstall Lock (Device Administrator)
GainLock includes an optional "uninstall lock." When you choose to enable it, GainLock is registered as an Android device administrator. While it is active, Android prevents GainLock from being uninstalled directly. This added friction is intended to stop you removing the App in a moment of low willpower.
The uninstall lock is opt-in and does nothing else. GainLock declares no device-administrator policies. It does not and cannot lock your screen, erase data, change passwords, track your location, monitor your activity, restrict other apps, or control your device in any way. Device-administrator status is used solely to keep uninstall protection in place.
You can turn it off at any time. Open Android Settings > Security > Device admin apps (the exact wording varies by device), deactivate GainLock, and the App can then be uninstalled normally. By enabling the uninstall lock, you accept that this extra step is required before the App can be removed.
11. Third-Party Services
The App uses Google ML Kit for on-device pose detection, can read step data from Android Health Connect, and is distributed and billed through the Google Play Store — each governed by Google's own terms. We are not responsible for third-party service availability or policies.
12. Disclaimers and Limitation of Liability
12.1 "As Is" Service
The App is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or uninterrupted operation.
12.2 Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, the developer shall not be liable for:
- Personal injury or health issues arising from exercise performed in connection with the App
- Indirect, incidental, or consequential damages
- Loss of data
- Any consequence of the App failing to block, or successfully blocking, an app
- Errors in repetition counts, step counts, time-bank balances, or other estimates
Maximum liability shall not exceed the amount you paid for the App in the preceding 12 months, or $50 USD, whichever is greater. Nothing in these Terms limits any right you have under mandatory consumer law that cannot be excluded.
13. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless the developer from claims, damages, and expenses arising from your use of the App or violation of these Terms.
14. Changes to Terms
We may modify these Terms at any time. Changes are effective upon posting. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.
15. Termination
You may stop using the App at any time by uninstalling it. We may terminate access for violations of these Terms.
16. Dispute Resolution
We encourage you to contact us first to resolve any dispute informally. You agree to resolve disputes individually and waive participation in class actions, to the extent permitted by law.
17. General Provisions
- These Terms and the Privacy Policy constitute the entire agreement.
- If any provision is unenforceable, the remaining provisions continue in effect.
- Failure to enforce a right does not waive that right.
